Sho Do Raku 書道楽 is a place where children and adults alike can enjoy and cultivate a peaceful state of mind through the art of Japanese calligraphy.

Calligraphy is not just about writing beautiful letters in the correct form.

As you grind an ink stick, carefully hold a brush, and put your deep thoughts onto the paper with thick black ink that cannot be erased or rewritten, a unique world of calligraphy opens up before you.

Calligraphy is something you can continue learning for a lifetime, and it is one of the most wonderful ways to enrich your life.

At the Sho Do Raku, a small cosy calligraphy workshop in Sheffield, England, we will provide you an opportunity to discover your real self in a tranquil atmosphere.

◇Adult’s Class (2 hours / lesson )

【Basic Course】

Beginning with regular writing, students learn up to 5 different writing styles at their own pace.

1. Brush Calligraphy

2. Pen Calligraphy

【Hobby Course】

This is a course to write haiku, waka and sutra with a small brush, and for those who have experience in calligraphy and are familiar with small brushes.

【Grading Challenge Course】

Advanced students take part in grading after registering at the Bunka Shodo Gakkai in Tokyo.

If students pass the 3^rd Dan grading, they become qualified as a calligraphy teacher.
